RNC, learnin's ---| readin's
I'm all for a woman as VP, but goddammit, every single bit about Palin's speech pissed me off. Rampant jingoism, fearmongering, and rahrahrah-ism. I know that McCain is a veteran. I know that he was a badass mofo who withstood torture, but tell me why he's gonna be an awesome president instead of a feisty POW. I know that this is to be expected of the Vice Presidential speech, but mrrrgh. Granted, these speeches are meant to rile up the base, and if there is anything I'm not, it's part of the Republican base. I now need to go find Biden's speech so that I can go get pissed off at his speech, too.

Also, she's just a thoroughly unmotivating speaker. I disagree with the political analysts. As a listener, she just sounded way to sound stiff.

P.S. I have seen all of one black man during this entire thing. Amazing.

Yesterday, I had my first exam. It was on biochem-but-actually-molecular-biology. Despite having essentially crammed (yet again), I think I did pretty well. Damn well, in fact. If I don't get at least a B+ on this test, I'll be thoroughly miffed. I rocked it hard, yo.

After the exam was another small-group session with our faculty mentor, and today's topic was "Ethics and Personal Wellness". Fun fact: Everyone in the room--first year students, second year students, fourth years, and our faculty mentor--we all can no longer really read for enjoyment anymore. Endless studying and having all our reading faculties devoted to textbooks and journals all the time have killed all our ability to sit down with a good book. And yes, it's a great irony because our love of reading as kids propeled us to where we are now. I mean, stuff like Harry Potter is fine because it's pretty shallow. But nuanced, reflective, good pieces of literature? Fuck that, our brains are too pooped to read. Gimme some trashy TV, instead! Well, I'm just glad that I wasn't the only one. It's no coincidence that I've pretty much only been able to read a book for fun while I was in transit somewhere, and when I'm not in transit, I can only for short periods of time. Basically, one-shot-length. There's so many books that I have on my "to read" list, but I know I'll never get around to them because I'll always feel like doing something other than reading. Le sigh. tl;dr: HIGHER SCIENCE EDUCATION KILLS THE ABILITY TO READ FOR FUN.

DSL should finally be connected at my apartment later tonight. FINALLY. SCREW YOU, AT&T, MY CREDIT IS FINE.

In other news, my mom called me to tell me that I've been summoned for jury duty. Lolz.

In further other news, my Suzaku figma is floating around a Dallas post office right now. And Lelouch should be arriving soon-ish. Possibly today. Yessss.

I've never followed American politics, but just like the UK's politicians there's never been anyone whose really impressed me. Being a woman is all well and good but gender shouldn't come into your opinion at all, even though it seems so important. What I've read and disliked about US politics though is the factor of candidates having to appeal to a religious house. An atheist president? Far more unlikely that a black man.

Well done for nailing yr exam! Heh, my best friend is taking a Biology degree and she's a big reader, I wonder if the passion really is killed! :[ It's a good thing for high quality 'shallow' books though that are easy to get into. Inversely for art students, I'm into heavy non-fiction, but trashy tv is so gooood.

Yeah, the religiosity of American politics is a bit off-putting. It's what happens when the nation's founder population all descended from people who England kicked out for being religious crazies. So thanks for that, guys. =P

Man, I wish I could find a high-quality shallow book. Reading attention span is at an all-time low. The only thing I've been motivated to read recently is Twilight, but that's only for lulz. F!S has inspired in me a terribly morbid fascination. Sparkly vampires? Purple prose? Awful metaphors? Creepy stalkers? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?

Haha, don't shove the blame onto me! 8D I read somewhere the actual founders were pretty much unsaid atheists and that the constitution says something about ruling without religious influence - implicitly. But then again Britain is supposedly a Christian country, but you could never tell from the people. Strange.

Oh god f!s has been making me want to read it as well, sparkly vampires! If anything it'll be good RAGE material - or as a cheaper option, there's always Mary Sue fanfic. My Immortal ftw! [google 'worst fanfiction']

Yeah, it seems that most the "Founding Fathers" were Deists. However, I meant that the people that crossed over back in the 1600's or something. Lol Puritans.

Oh god, I couldn't get through My Immortal. (LOL 12,529 reviews on ff.net) Oh Harry Potter fandom...

Yep, Deists is the one. Oh yeah, the people in the bonnets. Bad times!!

HAHA there's actually a video version which is highly entertaining [its on youtube], the thing itself is actually nearly impossible to read. There's some great typos though. Lol Snap. [8D I think a lot of those have fallen for the troll as well. Oh Harry Potter fandom indeed...I was never a part of yee :[ ]

Gah, I haven't read a book that's not required reading since I got into high school. I used to be such a good kid. I read Shakespeare and Plato and all these classics when I was in middle school, and I mostly watched PBS on TV, and I'd research stuff up on Wiki just for fun. In short, I was a fucking nerd. Now the first thing I do once I go home is turn on the computer and play shit. D: (So now I'm a fucking geek?)

Mark Twain was right, "The only thing in the way of education is schooling." I may not like his books, but damn, does he have nice quotes.

Inorite? I used to read Shakespeare and Kafka and whatnot for fun. Fuck you, science. You make my right brain sad. D:

Lol, you evolved! Except if you were like me, you just evolved from nerd to geeky nerd. =P
